Stay with us!
Choosing housing options is one of the hardest decisions to make when moving to a new city. It can be difficult if you aren’t familiar with the area, and as a parent it can be intimidating to send your child to live somewhere new. Our goal is to ensure our residents have the best student housing experience possible. Here's how we achieve this:
We’re new and we care
Horizon Residence is Edmonton’s newest off-campus student housing building, located just steps away from MacEwan campus. Our managers have been in place since September 2017, when new ownership took over the building. We're hard at work ensuring that residents are provided with a safe and fun student housing experience.
The freedom of off-campus housing
Sometimes parents or students ask us about the difference between on- and off-campus student housing. The short story is that off-campus housing is not directly affiliated with a university campus — and there's no mandatory meal plan! We do work closely with multiple different faculties, student councils, and clubs, including MacEwan Student Council. In the past year we ensured that the student paper, “The Griff,” was distributed at The Horizon, and we sponsored one of our student resident singers. We have also connected with multiple universities this summer to arrange accommodation for international students on summer exchanges.
A unique student living experience
The Horizon is not just your ordinary student off-campus housing. We stand out from your average apartment property. Each suite is set up to fit students’ needs and comes fully furnished with a bed, desk, chair, dresser, couch and TV. In the kitchen, we have beautiful marble countertops, as well as full-sized appliances that include a refrigerator, microwave and range. Probably most important to students — we provide residents with free WIFI.
a sense of community
As a student accommodation, we understand the importance of a sense of community, and we love to provide opportunities for our residents to get to know one another. This past year we ran multiple events within the building, including a karaoke meet n' greet, Halloween door decoration contest, Horizon launch party, free pizza night and Super Bowl viewing party. We’ve got a lot of new and fun events planned for our student residents this upcoming summer and 2018/2019 school year.
staff who care
You can count on our team of professional managers and student assistants to provide excellent service. They're friendly and approachable, and available to residents from 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and 12 pm to 4 pm on weekends. Almost all staff live on-site, and are around to handle any after-hour emergencies.
As a newly owned building, we are looking forward to the positive changes in the works over the next few years. The Horizon is fortunate to have great commercial spaces on the lower level. Our new shop, Aapna Pizza, will open shortly, and two new facilities are expected for fall 2018. We are also installing a study area in the courtyard equipped with study carrels, group study desks, and lounge seating.
